While my family wasn't a "nudist" family, both my Dad and Mom would walk around the house nude, so I wasn’t self conscious. On the other hand, it wasn’t actually a lifestyle or full time thing. If we were at friends' houses in the country and I was running around topless as a kid, that was no problem, either. Imagine a little blond six year old, wearing a hand made pink fairy princess skirt, complete with tin foil stars stapled on, topless and her wand in hand being chased down the hill by a chicken because she got between the chicken and her chicks. That would have been me. My folks have always sworn that there is a picture of that moment but I've still never seen it.

But then my Dad got more conservative and they started covering up. Now, 30 years later, I have a 14 year old brother and its the standard rules, boys can be naked with boys and girls can be naked with girls. And if you stumble across each other naked, it is not the end of the world but not socially appropriate.

I don't exactly know why. I'm glad my Dad raised me to think being nude was natural and no big deal. But now... he knows that I have a nudist boyfriend, other friends and have been going to the C/O beach nearby... we could always talk about everything... but now he disapproves. We haven't had a good chance to talk at length and see what his concerns are (he is a psychiatrist so you have to take him with a grain of salt). But I anticipate this will be an area where we are going to have to agree to disagree.

I had 1 cousin who at 6 still would hate to get dressed after a bath and would run around and play naked as long as youu would let him. The odd thing about him when his grandmother suggested he swim in his underwear in their private pool when he didn't have his suit he wouldn't do it. I remember another time with another cousin about 3 when he wet his pants while his grandmother was babysitting and she didn't have any other clean clothes she simplt had him go naked for the rest of the time which he was perfectly happy to do. Other than young children nudity has always never been allowed. Unfortunately my sister with her own children is raising them where nudity is not allowed at all other then of course in the bathroom or while changing in private. Her first child fought it and was constantly trying to take her clothes off when she was small but her other 2 children have been raised strictly no nudity. Sometimes it just seems silly. The last time I saw my niece, her first child, almost naked was when she was about 4 and was getting ready for a bath when myself and my mother, her grandmother were visiting and about to leave. She wanted to say goodbye and ran out without any pants or panties on and her mother got very upset.


The desire to get stripped at a nude beach and the fear of letting the people around you see you naked...
